Are you looking for a ferret for adoption? There are several places on the web that I recommend you check out in order to find a ferret for adoption. It’s important that you know a few facts about ferrets before setting out to adopt one. They are likely to live 5 to 8 years and become quite bonded with you so prolonged separation causes them pain. It’s important to the ferret that you show your love through kindness, by talking to them, by teaching them with encouragement not abuse, and remembering that they are small and can be easily hurt. They have sharp teeth that can hurt you and go through a “nipping phase” when they are being trained. But they are wonderful little critters to have as pets.
As I recommend for most animal adoptions, I suggest you get a ferret for adoption at a local shelter. They will usually have ferrets in all age groups and colors. Most centers will adopt out single ferrets, pairs, and even trios. One ferret for adoption is plenty if you’re a first time adoptee. Out of the numerous sources I have researched on the web I have narrowed the field to three resource websites that will get you off to a good start in finding your special ferret for adoption.
The first resource is Everything Ferret at www.everythingferret.com. Everything Ferret is an authority on all things ferret related, including care, feeding, health, housing, etc. They also have a huge list of places to find a ferret for adoption. On their shelters page, www.everythingferret.com/ferret_shelters.htm, they have approximately 150 locations listed on a state-by-state basis for each state in the US. Their list also includes international locations where you can find a ferret for adoption.
The second resource is Pet Guardian Angels of America at www.pgaa.com. On the PGAA’s rescue contacts shelters page, www.pgaa.com/rescues.html, they have hundreds of places where you can find a ferret for adoption. They also list each state and the shelter locations within the state along with contact information and web page if applicable.
The third resource to find your special ferret for adoption is Petfinder at www.petfinder.com. Petfinder is an online database of animals to adopt and is also a directory of more than 10,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the USA, Canada and Mexico. These organizations maintain their own home pages and available pet database.
Searching for ferrets is a little tricky if you have never been to the Petfinder site before. At their home page on the left hand side you will see a form that reads, “Search for a Pet”. The first box is “Animal” and it allows you to select an animal. Choose the option “Small and Furry”. Next go to the box that reads “Breed [See All]” and type in ferret into the field Click on “See All” and you will see ferret come up in the results. From that list you can peruse and find your choice of a .
