Pet adoption rescue - A Noble Cause!

The business of pet adoption rescue is a truly noble and humane cause. So many pets end up euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for all the pets that are born each year. It is really criminal how we treat many of the helpless animals that are capable of bringing such joy to the lives of people. Pet adoption rescue is bright light in a place that can be so dark.

One of the bright lights in pet adoption rescue is the PGAA (Pet Guardian Angels of America). They are a non-profit organization devoted to pet adoption rescue, selection assistance, general and health information for all types of pets: cats, dogs, fish, snakes, reptiles, hamsters, birds, rabbits and other small mammals. They are in their 10th year of existence and still going strong at www.pgaa.com.

PGAA maintains one of the largest databases of pet adoption rescue facilities in the US. On their website at www.pgaa.com there are extensive listings for each state and Canada. The listings in each state are broken down by physical location, type of animals that are rescued, the specific breed if any, the webpage URL of the facility, and if the facility has a no-kill policy. The pet adoption rescue creed of the PGAA maintains that it is much better to buy a rescue pet than to purchase a pet at a pet store.

Purchasing pets from a pet store encourages the continuation of the horribly abusive puppy mill type activities where the only consideration for the animals is profit. There is no love in most puppy mill type facilities where dogs, cats and other animals live utter squalor. Often a pet adoption rescue is made from puppy mill type facilities when local police authorities call in the humane society. The Humane Society and the PGGA are both excellent organizations that work towards the ultimate goal of rescuing pets for adoption.

It is unfortunate that pet adoption rescue needs to take place at all. In a perfect world there would be loving homes for all pets that needed one. The harsh reality is that pet animals are a commodity, are often abused and neglected by their owners, are too numerous, and are so helpless without our care. So I tip my hat to those brave loving individuals who take time in their life to make pet adoption rescue a top priority.
